This particular part of South Asia has the largest child population in the world. Unfortunately, newest research shows that approximately 4% of the child population in this region are orphans. That’s 20 million children with no family, a number that is projected to increase by 2021. Orphaned children face extreme vulnerabilities, including sex trafficking, forced child labor, HIV/ AIDS, and substance abuse. Many children have lost their parents because of abandonment due to poverty, illness and death.

Even children with families in this part of South Asia face unimaginable hardships. Most do not attend school regularly, as they are pressured to go to work and earn money for their families. Health is also a struggle as early 2 million children born per year in this part of the world do not live to the age of 5. These issues, combined with an unbalanced caste system make orphaned children in South Asia most at risk.

A ministry of Completing the Call, Good Samaritan Children’s Home is a non profit organization working to meet the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of orphaned and abandoned children in Karnataka. Directors, Bobby & Rekha George began this ministry in a small house with five children in 1999. The ministry has been subject to years of persecution, but despite this, the ministry has thrived and grown. The home is currently a refuge to 20 children who are cared for in a loving, christian environment.

Serving Orphans Worldwide travels to every orphanage we partner with to ensure needs are legitimate and 100% of funds distributed goes to the livelihood of the children.

Many children who are abandoned typically come from single parent, very impoverished environments. Poverty causes a host of problems, such as lack of access to proper healthcare, education, and exposes the children to other vulnerabilities.

This part of South Asia has the largest number of child sexual abuse cases being registered globally, according to recent studies. In most of these cases, the perpetrator of child sexual abuse is a known family member.

Child Trafficking

This part of South Asia is flooded with trafficking for the purpose of forced child labor. Young girls are being forced into the sex trade and children are also sold by their parents to work in industries that are dangerous and expose them to other vulnerabilities.

The children live in a facility located on the ministry headquarters property. Each child has a bed, and a small shelf for his or her belongings which typically consist of only very few clothes and a pair of boots for the monsoon season.

Every child of school age is enrolled in public school and study hall is built into their daily routine. They walk to school everyday, and love to learn! The home ensures that education remains a top priority, as they understand it is key to their future success.

The home ensures that the children have every opportunity to learn and develop a relationship with the Lord. Bible study and prayer time are built into their daily routines. All children also attend church every week and really love to learn about the Bible. This is something the home feels is a top priority.

The children receive regular general health care, eye and dental care and vaccinations. They also receive recommended medical tests for HIV, hepatitis, and parasites and are treated accordingly.
