POKHARA CHILDREN’S HOME SOUTH ASIA

ORPHAN CRISIS IN SOUTH ASIA

Despite being a popular destination for mountain climbers around the globe, this part of Southeast Asia hides a grim reality of abandoned children and their hardships. In a society already struggling with extreme poverty, the civil wars have had a crippling effect on the country and orphaned children. Many children are forced to work and provide for their families, leaving them without an education or hope of breaking the poverty cycle. Countless more are abandoned and highly vulnerable to other issues, including child marriages, trafficking, and child labor. Most abandoned children struggle to access clean water, medical care, necessities, and schooling. Orphaned and abandoned children rely heavily on homes like Pokhara Children’s Home to provide immediate relief from the dangerous and dire situations
they would otherwise face.

ABOUT POKHARA CHILDREN’S HOME

PROMINENT ISSUES

NATURAL DISASTER

Natural disasters such as the devastating 2015 earthquake have hit this region hard,
destroying lives and homes. These natural disasters have left many children orphaned with nowhere to go.

DESTITUTION

Nearly 25% of the population in this part of Southeast Asia is living in poverty. Poor families often have to send their children to work rather than school, furthering the cycle.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Human trafficking in Southeast Asia is a growing problem. Orphaned children are most vulnerable to trafficking because they are often left to fend for themselves, making them specific targets for this crime.

WE BELIEVE

HOME

Pokhara Children’s Home operates out of a house comprised of separate rooms where the
children sleep, a kitchen, bathrooms, and plenty of room to live and play.

HEALTH

The children are provided with proper medical care and are taken to a nearby hospital if an emergency arises. The children are given three nutritious meals a day, complete with
protein, grains, vegetables, and fruit.

FAITH

At Pokhara Children’s Home, they are serious about faith! Founded on Christian principles, staff make it a priority to teach the children about the love of Christ through regular church services and bible studies.

EDUCATION

At Pokhara Children’s Home, all eligible children go to public schools where they are
transported safely.
